BrightEdge has published their latest data on Google AI Mode adoption, and the numbers are staggering. AI Mode now appears on 47% of all commercial search queries — up from just 12% six months ago.
The impact on organic click-through rates is significant:
- Position 1 CTR drops from 15% to 8% when AI Mode is present
- Position 2-3 CTR drops even further, averaging just 3.2%
- Informational queries see the highest AI Mode adoption at 62%
- Commercial queries are at 47% and climbing
This is not a temporary experiment. Google is steadily expanding AI Mode coverage, and the traditional organic CTR curve is being compressed across every vertical.
The key question for SEOs is no longer whether AI Mode will affect their traffic — it already has. The question is whether your content is being cited inside the AI answer or just ranked below it.
